Mechanics and Rules

Review the contest guidelines below. You must agree before you can continue to the website.

Mechanics

  1. Twenty (20) participants compete at the same time using separate assigned computers or laptops.
  2. All participants type the same Hard Mode passage containing challenging words, punctuation, capitalization, numbers, symbols, or complex sentences.
  3. The passage is revealed only after the facilitator gives the start signal. Everyone begins at the same time.
  4. Participants have a maximum of five (5) minutes to complete the passage. A visible countdown timer may be used.
  5. The passage must be typed manually. Copy-and-paste, predictive text, autocorrect assistance, outside help, and use of another participant's device are prohibited.
  6. Once finished, the participant must stop typing and immediately signal the judge. The judge records the exact completion time.
  7. Only the first three qualified finishers will be awarded. The fastest is Champion/1st Place, followed by 2nd Place and 3rd Place.
  8. At five minutes, all unfinished participants must stop. An unfinished entry cannot rank ahead of a participant who completed and qualified within the limit.
  9. If official times are equal, higher accuracy ranks first. If still tied, a one-minute tie-breaker using a new Hard Mode passage will determine the ranking.

Rules

  • Participants must type only on their assigned device.
  • Copy-and-paste, predictive text, autocorrect assistance, and outside help are prohibited.
  • Participants must stop typing once the five-minute time limit ends.
  • Judges' verified time and accuracy records are the official basis for ranking.
